With a Lady Judge present on the bench for the first time in the history
of this Court and of its predecessor, the Tnternational Courtof Justice held
hearings which constituted another "first": that of a State requesting
revision of a previously renderedJudgment of the Court.

Mme Suzanne Bastid, Professor Emeritus of the University ofParis, and

herself a daughter of a former President of the Court, Jules Basdevant, was
named by Tunisia as ad hoc Judge in the case. Professor Bastid taughtat
the University of Paris for 32 years, is the author of many books and articles
in the field of internationallaw. She servedalso as Member and President
of the United Nations AdministrativeTribunal and Secretary-Çeneralof the
Institute of International Law.

From 13 to 18 June 1985, the Court held piiblichearings on the Application
for revision and interpretationof the Judgment of 24 February 1982 inthe
case concerningthe Continental Shelf (TunisialLibyanArab Jamahiriya). The
Parties stated their views.

On 13 and 14 June 1985, oral argumentswere presentedon behalf of
Tunisia by Mr. Habib Lazreg, Agent of Tunisia; Mr. Yadh ben Achour, Co-Agent
and Counsel; Mr. Virally and Mr. Dupuy, Counsel and Advocates.

On 17 and 18 June 1985, oral arguments were presented on behalf of the
Libyan Arab Jamahiriya by His Excellency Mr. KameL H. El Maghur, Agent of
the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya; Sir Francis Vallat,Mr. Jean-Pierre Queneudec

and Mr. Derek W. Bowett, Counsel and Advocates.

At the beginning of the hearing held on 13 June 1985, Mme Suzanne Bastid
and Mr. Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga, the .Tudgead hoc chosen by the Libyan
Arab Jamahiriya,made the solemn declaration required by Article 20 of the

Déroulement et clôture desaudiences

Pour la première fois dans l'histoirede la Cour internationalede Justice
et celle de sa devancière,une femme a siégé parmi les membres de la Cour pendant
la procédure oralequi vient de se dérouler dans une affaire qui constitueune
autre "première", à savoir une demande en revision d'un arrêt rendu antérieu-
rement par la Cour.

Mme Suzanne Bastid,professeur éméritede l'université deParis et elle-même
fille d'un ancien président de la Cour, M. Jules Basdevant, a été désignée par
la Tunisie comme jugead hoc pour siéger en l'affairElle a enseigné pendant
32 ans à l'université deParis et est l'auteur de nombreux livreset articles
en droit international. Elle a également été membreet présidente du
Tribunal administratifdes Nations Unies et secrétaire généralede l'Institut
de droit international.

LaCour a tenu des audieincespubliqiiesdu 13 au 18 juin 1985 sur la
demande en revision et en interprétationde l'arrêt rendu par la Cour le
24 février 1982dans l'affaire du Plateau continentalunisielJamahiriya
arabe libyenne). Les Parties ont exposé leurs thèses.

Les13 et 14 juin 1985, des plaidoiriesont été présentées aunom de
la Tunisie parM. Habib Lazreg, agent de la TunisiM.Yadh ben Achour,
