on the prelirxinary objection to the jurisdiction of the Court rnised
by the United KBr4dorn in the Ambatielos c2se bctween Greece and the
United Kingdom,

The Presidcnt, h~~ving opened the session, called upon Judges
Levi Cnrneiro, Slr Benegd Rau md :,rrnand Ugonwho were elected to the
Court in I)ocei;.iber 1951 tmake the solm declnratlon prescribed by
the Statute of the Court,

The President then stated that, as the HeUenic Goverment had
no judge of its nntlonaliby on the Bench, it had designatedan ad hoc
judge in the person of ?VIJean Spiropoulas.

The Presidcnt, behg of the same nationality as one of the
parties in the case before the Court, then transferred the Presidency
ta the Vice-lresident of the Court,

The Acting President, Vice-Prosident GuerrePo, then called
upon 14,Spiropoulos to make the solm declaration provided for by
the Statute of the Court,

Sir Eric Beckett, Q.C., addressed the Court as counsel for
the United Kingdom Goverment,
