READING OF THEJUDGMENT ON PRECIMINARY OBJECTIONS
The Court has met today pursuant to Article 58of the Statute to deliver in
open court itsjudgment on the preliminaryobjections raisedby the Government
of the Commonwealth of Australia in the case concerning Cerlain Phosphare
Lands inNauru (Nauru v.Australiu), bmught before the Court on 19May 1989
by an Applicat~onof the Government of the Republic of Nauru.
Judge Bedjaoui, who took part in the hearings and deliberation on the objec-
tions, and participated in the vote and in the Judgment of the Court, is unfortu-
nately unableto be present at today'ssitting,
Following the usual practice,1 shalI not read the opening paragraphs of the
Judgment which set out the procedural history of the case and the submissions
of the Parties. 1 shall also summarize some passages of the Judgrnent. The
authoritative text of the 3udgrneisthe French version,bur 1shall now read the
EngIishtext of the Judgment. I
