(REQUEST FOR ADVISORY OPINION)

ORDER

The President of the International Court of Justice,
Having regard to Article 66, paragraph 2, ofthe of the Court;

Whereas, on 29 July 1970,the Security Council of the United Nations
adopted a resolution requesting the International Court of Justice to
give an advisory opinion on the following question:

"What are the legal consequences for States of the continued
presence of South Africa in Namibia, notwithstanding Security

Council resolution 27670)?"
Whereas the English and French texts of the aforesaid resolution of
the Security Council were transmitted to the Court ont 1970;

Whereas the Security Council has requested that the advisory opinion
of the Court be transmitted to it at an early date, and having regard to
Article 82, paragraph 2, ofthes of Court;
Fixes23 September 1970as the time-limit within which written state-
ments may be submitted in accordance with Article 66, paragraph 2, of
theStatute of the Court;

ORDONNANCE

Le Présidentde la Cour internationale de Justice,

Vu l'article 66, paragraphe 2, du Statut de la Cour;
Considérant que le 29juillet 1970le Conseil de sécuritéde l'organi-
sation des Nations Unies a adoptéune résolutiondemandantà la Cour
internationale de Justice de donner un avis consultatif sur la question
suivante:

((Quellessont les conséquencesjuridiques pour les Etats de la
présencecontinue de l'Afrique du Sud en Namibie, nonobstant la
résolution276 (1970)du Conseil de sécurité?

Considérant que les textes français et anglais de la susdite résolution
du Conseil de sécuritéont ététransmiàla Cour le 5 août 1970;

Considérantquele Conseil de sécuria demandéquel'avisconsultatif
de la Cour lui soit transmisune date rapprochée, et eu égarà l'ar-
ticle2, paragraphe 2, du Règlementde la Cour;
Fixe au 23 septembre 1970la date d'expiration du délaidans lequel
des exposésécrits peuvent êtreprésentés conformémentà l'article 66,
paragraphe 2, du Statut de la Cour;
