The case is now under deliberation

THE HAGUE, 8 October2008. The case concer ning the Request for Interpretation of the
Judgment of 31March2004 in the Case concerning Avena and Other Mexican Nationals

(Mexicov. United States of America) (Mexico v. United States of America) before the
International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, is now under
deliberation.

At the beginning of September, the Court aut horized the Parties, pursuant to Article98,
paragraph4, of the Rules of Court, to furnish it with further written expl anations on Mexico’s

Request for interpretation. It fixed 17Septem ber and 6October2008 as the time-limits for the
filing of those further written explanations bMexico and the United States respectively. The
explanations were filed within the time-limits thus fixed.

Following its previous practice, the Court did not consider that there was any reason to hold

hearings in the case.

The Judgment of the Court on the Request fo r interpretation filed by Mexico will be
delivered at a public sitting, the date of which will be announced in due course.
