Progress and conclusion of public hearings

The following infonnation is communicated to the Press by the Registry of the International
Court of Justice:

The public hearings held by the Court on the request for the indication of provisional
measures made by Cameroon in the above case, which opened on Tuesday 5 March 1996, were
concluded on Friday 8 March 1996.

During the first round of oral arguments. held on 5 and 6 March, statements were made:

- on behalf of Cameroon, by H.E. Mr. Douala Moutoume, Agent of Cameroon, by Professor
Maurice Kamto and Dean Peter Ntam1ack, Co-Agents, by Professor Alain Pellet, Deputy-Agent,
Counsel and Advocate, and by H.E. Mr. Paul Bamela Engo and Professor Jean-Pierre Cot,
Counsel and Advocates;

- on behalf of Nigerby,Chief M.A. Agbamuche, Agent ofN igeria, by Chief Richard Akinj ide,
Co-Agent, and by Professor lan Brownlie, Sir Arthur Watts and Professor James Crawford,
Counsel and Advocates.

Vice-President Schwebel put a question to the Agents of both Parties and Judges Oda and
Guillaume each put a question to the Agent of Nigeria.
