Hearings on preliminary objections to open on 29 April 1996
The following information is communicated to the Press by the Registry of the International
Court of Justice:
As announced in Press Communiqué No. 96/3 of 6 February 1996, public sittings to hear the
oral arguments of the Parties in the case conceming Application of the Convention on the
Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Bosnia and Herzegovina v. Yugoslavia
(Serbia and Montenegro)) will open at 10.00 a.m. on Monday 29 April 1996, in the Great Hall of
Justice of the Peace Palace at The Hague.
As Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) filed certain preliminary objections related, first, to
the admissibilityf the Application and, secondly, to the jurisdiction of the Court to deal with the
case, the oral proceedings shall be confined to these issues.
NOTE FOR THE PRESS
1. The public sitting will be held in the Great Hall of Justice of the Peace Palace. Members
of the Press wiIl be entitled to attend on presentation of an admission card, which may be obtained
upon application. The tables reserved for them are situated on the far leftthe public entrance
of the courtroom.
2. Photographs may be taken before the opening, during the first five minutes of the sitting;
and also for a few minutes towards the end. Filming for cinema or television purposeshowever
subject to special authorization.
3. In theress Room, located on the ground floor of the Peace Palace (Room 5), the Court's
proceedings will be relayed through a loudspeaker.
4. Members of the Press who wish to make phone calis may use the public telephones in the
Post Office in the basement of the Palace.
5. Mr. A. Th. Witteveen, Secretai)' of the Court (Press and Information Matters)
