Frontier dispute (Burkina Faaol~ali)
Progress and conclusion of public hearings

The following information is made available to the Press by the
Registry of the International Court of Justice:

The Chamber of the Court dealing with the case concerning the
Frontier Dispute between Burkina Faso and Mali held public hearings
between 16 and 26 June 1986.

The Chamber to which the case has been brought was constituted by an
Order of the Court dated 3 April 1985, and is composed as follows:
President MohammedBedjaoui; Judges Manfred Lachs and Joeé-Maria Ruda;
Judges ad hoc Francois Luchaire and Georges Abi-Saab.

During the first round of oral argument, held between 16 and
21 June, statements were made

- on behalf of Burkina Faso, by His Excellency Mr. Erneat Ouedraogo,
Agent of Burkina Faso; Mr. Souleymane Diallo, Counsel; His Ercellency
Mr. Emmanuel Salembere, Co-Agent; Mr. Alain Pellet and
Mr. Jean-Pierre Cot, Counsel and Advocates;

- on behalf of Mali, by His Excellency Lieutenant-Colonel
Abdourahmane Maiga, Agent of Mali; Mr. Jean Salmon,
Mr. Raymond Ranjeva, Mr. Pierre-Marie Dupuy, Counsel;
Mr. Diadié Traoré, Scientific and Technical Adviser.

The.. . The second round of oral argument took place on 24 and 26 June 1986.
The speakers were:

- for Burkina Faso, Mr. Jean Pierre Cot, Couneel and Advocate;
Mr. Jean Gateaud, Expert; Mr. Alain Pellet, Counsel and Advocate;

- for Mali, Mr. Jean Salmon, Couneel; Mr. Paul Delmond, Expert;
Mr .Raymond Ranjeva, Counsel ; Mr. Diadié Traoré, Scient if ic and
Technical Adviser.

Each of the two Agents read the final submiasions of hie Goverment
at the end of the oral phase of the proceedings.

The Qiamber will now consider ite Judgment in the caee. The Press
will be informed of the date on which the Chamber will deliver ita
Judgment .
