THE HAGUE, 11 July 2022. On Friday 22 July 2022, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, will deliver its Judgment on the preliminary objections raised by Myanmar in the case concerning Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (The Gambia v. Myanmar).
A public sitting of the Court will take place at 3 p.m. at the Peace Palace in The Hague, during which the President of the Court, Judge Joan E. Donoghue, will read out the Court’s decision.
Hearings and other Court sessions held in the ICJ’s courtroom at the Peace Palace remain closed to the public for the time being as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Only Members of the Court and representatives of the States Parties to the case will be present in the Great Hall of Justice. Members of the diplomatic corps and the public will be able to follow the reading through a live webcast on the Court’s website, as well as on UN Web TV, the United Nations online television channel. Limited access to the Peace Palace will be granted to media representatives, as indicated in the instructions below.

Admission procedures and practical information for the media
1. Accreditation procedure
Media representatives are subject to a compulsory online accreditation procedure, which will close at midnight on Monday 18 July 2022 (The Hague time). Requests submitted after this deadline will not be considered. The Court’s Press Room can accommodate only 30 persons. Accreditation requests will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.
2. Entry to the Peace Palace
The Press Room will be open one and a half hours prior to the start of the sitting and will close one hour after it concludes. Accredited media representatives must bring with them their personal ID and press card. They are asked to arrive at the Peace Palace gates no later than 30 minutes prior to the start of the sitting. Only duly accredited individuals with valid identification will be permitted to enter the Peace Palace grounds.
3. No access to the courtroom
Media representatives, including photographers and camera crews, will not be granted access to the courtroom. There may, however, be an opportunity to speak to members of the delegations, should they decide to make a statement following the reading. Any statements will be made on the steps of the Peace Palace.
4. Press Room facilities
The hearings will be transmitted live on a large screen, in English and in French, in a press room equipped with a shared internet access (Wi-Fi, Ethernet). TV crews can connect to the Court’s PAL (HD and SD) and NTSC (SD) audio-visual system and radio reporters to the audio system.
5. Multimedia
The sitting will be streamed live and on demand (VOD), in English and in French, on the Court’s website and on UN Web TV. High-resolution video files and still photos produced by the Registry during the reading of the Judgment will be available free of charge, for non-commercial use, on the Court’s website and Twitter feed (@CIJ_ICJ) at the close of the sitting (to download, click on Multimedia).

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It was established by the United Nations Charter in June 1945 and began its activities in April 1946. The Court is composed of 15 judges elected for a nine-year term by the General Assembly and the Security Council of the United Nations. The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands).
