Request for the indication of provisional measures

The Court will hear the Parties at public hearings to be held
on Monday 26 and Wednesday 28 June 2000 at 4 p.m.

THE HAGUE, 21 June 2000. The Internationa l Court of Justice (ICJ), seised by the
Democratic Republic of the Congo of a request for the indication of provisional measures in the
case concerning Armed Activities on the Territory of e Congo (Democratic Republic of the
Congo v. Uganda) (see Press Communiqué2000/18 of 19June2000), will hear the Parties at
public hearings to be held on Monday 26 and on Wednesday 28 June 2000.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo will speak on Monday 26June2000 from 4 to
5.30 p.m. and Uganda on Wednesday 28 June 2000 from 4 to 5.30 p.m.

By letters dated 19 June 2000, the President of the Court, Judge Gilbert Guillaume, acting in
conformity with Article 74, paragraph 4, of the Ru les of Court, drew “the attention of both Parties

to the need to act in suchway as to enable any Order the Court will make on the Request for
provisional measures to have its appropriate effects”.

N OTE FOR THE PRESS

1. The public sittings will be held in the Great Hall of Justice of the Peace Palace in

TheHague, Netherlands. Mobile telephones a nd beepers are allowed in the courtrooprovided
they are turned off or set on silent mode. Any offending device will be temporarily retained.

2. Members of the Press will be entitled to attend on presentation of a press card. The tables

reserved for them are situated on the far left of the public entrance of the courtroom. - 2 -

3. Photographs may be taken for a few minutes at the opening and at the end of the sittings.
Television crews may film, but advance notice should be given to the Information Office (see

paragraph 7).

4. In the Press Room, located on the ground floor of the Peace Palace (Room 5), the Court’s

proceedings will be relayed through a loudspeaker.

5. The verbatim records of the public sittings will be published on the Court’s website
(http://www.icj-cij.org).

6. Members of the Press who wish to make telephone calls may use the phone located in the
Press Room for collect calls or the public telephon es in the Post Office in the basement of the

Peace Palace.
