Inaugural Public Sitting of the Chamber

The following information is made available to the Press by the
Registry of the International Court of Justice:

On Tuesday 17 November 1987 the inaugural public sitting of the
Chamber of the Court in the case concerning Elettronica Sicula

S.p.A.(ELSI) was held.

Speeches were made by President Nagendra Singh who, pursuant to
Article 18, paragraph 2, of the Rules of Court, is the President of the
Chamber, as well as by the Deputy-Agent of the United States,
Mr. T. Ramish and the Agent of Italy, Mr. L. Ferrari Bravo.

By an Order of the same date the Chamber of the Court fixed
18 March 1988 as the time-limit for the filing of a Reply by the
United States and 18 July 1988 for the filing of a Rpjoinder by Italy.

On Monday 16 November 1987, within Lhe time-limit fixed by the Court
in an Order of 2 March 1987, the Agent of Italy had filed the
Counter-Fiernorial.
