Les renseignements suivants, éma11ant du Greffe de la Cour inter­
n~tional de Justice, ont 8t8 mis à la disposition de la presse:

A la date du 15 avril 1957, c est-à-dire dans le d3lai nrescrit
par l'ordonnance du 27 novembre 1956 pour le dépÔt du contr~-m§moire
ou de l'exception pr2liminaire envisagée par le Gouvernement de l Inde
en l'affaire du droit de passage sur territoire indien (Portugal c..
Inde), le Gouvernement de l'Inde a déposéau Greffe une exception à la
compétence de la Cour pour connaitre de la requête présentée par le
Gouvernement du Portugal.

Par une ordonnance rendue aujourd'hui (16 avril 1957), le
Président a fixé au 15 juin 1957 le délai imparti au Gouvernement du
Portugal pour présenter un exposé écrit de ses observations et
conclusions sur les exceptions. Entre temps, la procédure sur le fond
est suspendue en vertu de l'article 62, :paragraphe 3, du Règlement de

la Cour.

The following inforlllB.tian from the Registry of the International
Court of Justice is communicated to the Press:

On April 15th, 1957, that is, within the time-limit fixed by the
Order of November 27th, 1956, for the filing of the Counter-Memorial
or of the Preliminary Objection contemplated by the Government of -
India in the case concerning a right of passage over ·Indian territory
(Portugal 1i India), the Government 1f India filed in the Registry a
Preliminary Objection to the Court s jurisdiction ta entertain the
Application of the Goverlli~ oenPtortugal.

By an Order made ta-day (April 16th, 1957), the President has
fixed June l5th, 1957, as the time-limit vJithin which the Government
of Portugal may present a written statement of its Observations and
Submissions on the Objection. -Meanwhile, the proceedings on the
merits are, by Article 62, paragraph 3, of the Rules of Court,
suspended.
