After deliberation,

Having regard to Article 48 of theStatute of the Court and to
Articles 44 and 79 of the Rules of Court,
Having regard to the Order of 30 June 1999,whereby the Court fixed
5 January 2000 and 5 July 2000 as the time-limits for the filing, respec-
tively, of a Memorial of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and a
Counter-Memorial of the Kingdom of Belgium,

Having regard to the preliminary objections to jurisdiction and
sibility filed by Belgium on 5 July 2000,
Having regard to the Order of 8 September 2000, whereby the Vice-
President of the Court, Acting President, fixed 5 April 2001 as the time-
limit within which the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia might present awritten statement of its observations and submissions on the preliminary
objections made by the Kingdom of Belgium;

Whereas, by letter dated 18 January 2001, received in the Registry on
19 January 2001 by facsimile, the Minister for Foreign Aff'airsof the
Federal Republic of Yugoslavia referred inter alia to recent diplomatic
initiatives and requested the Court, for reasons stated in that letter, "to
grant a stay of the proceedings or . . to extend the time limit for the
submission of observations ofYugoslavia, for a period of twelvemonths" ;
and whereas, on receipt of that letter, the Registrar transmitted a copy
thereof to the Agent of the Kingdom of Belgium;

Whereas, by letter dated 1 February 2001, received in the Registry on
the same day by facsimile,the Agent of the Kingdom of Belgiuminformed
the Courtthat his Government was not opposed to a stay of proceedings
or, if a stay was not possible, to an extension of the time-limit for the
filing of the observations and submissions of Yugoslavia on the prelimi-
nary objections of Belgium,
Taking account of the agreement of the Parties and of the circum-
stances of the case,

Extends to 5April2002 the time-limit within which the Federal Repub-
lic of Yugoslavia may present a written statement of its observations and
submissions on the preliminary objections made by the Kingdom of Bel-
gium; and

Reserves the subsequent procedure for further decision.

Done in French and in English, the French text being authoritative, at
the Peace Palace, The Hague, this twenty-first day of February, two
thousand and one, in three copies, one of which will be placed in the
archives of the Court and the others transmitted to the Government of
the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Government of the Kingdom
of Belgium, respectively.

Considérant que, par lettre du 18 janvier 2001, reçue au Greffe le
19 janvier 2001 par télécopie,le ministre des affaires étrangères de la
Républiquefédéralede Yougoslavie s'estnotamment référé à de récentes
initiatives diplomatiques et a priéla Cour,pour les raisons exposéesdans
ladite lettre,de suspendre la procédureou ...de reporter de douze mois
la date d'expiration du délaifixépour la présentation par la Yougoslavie
de ses observations)); et considérant que, dèsréception decette lettre, le
greffier en a fait tenir copiel'agent du Royaume de Belgique;

Considérant que, par lettre due'février2001,reçue au Greffe le même
jour par télécopie,l'agent du Royaume de Belgique a informé la Cour
que son gouvernement ne s'opposait pas àla suspension de la procédure
ou, si cette suspension n'était paspossible,la prorogation du délaipour
le dépôtdes observations et conclusions de la Yougoslavie sur les excep-
tions préliminairesde la Belgique,

Compte tenu de l'accord desParties et des circonstances de l'espèce,

Reporte au 5 avril 2002 la date d'expiration du délaidans lequel la
République fédéralede Yougoslavie pourra présenter un exposé écrit

contenant ses observations et conclusions sur les exceptions préliminaires
soulevéespar le Royaume de Belgique;
Réservela suite de la procédure.

Fait en français et en anglais, le texte français faisant foi, au Palais de
la Paix, à La Haye, le vingt et un février deux milleun, en trois exem-

plaires, dont l'un restera déposéaux archives de la Cour et les autres
seront transmis respectivement au Gouvernement de la Républiquefédé-
rale de Yougoslavie et au Gouvernement du Royaume de Belgique.
