ORDER

The President of the International Court of Justice,

having regard to Article 48 of the Statute of the Court,
having regard to Article 62 of theRules of Court,

Makes the follozeiingOrd:r
Having regard to the Application filed in the Kegistry on
December zznd, 1955, whereby the Government of the Kepublic
of Portugal institutedproceedings against the Government of the
Republic of India in the matter of the right of passage over Indian
territory ;

Having regard to the Order of March 13th, 1956, fixing the
time-limits for the filing of the Memorial and Counter-Memorial
in this case and reserving the rest of the procedure for further
decision;
Having regard to'the Memorial subinitted by the Governmcnt
of the Republic of Portugal within the time-limit so fixed;

Having regard to the Order of November 27th, 1956, extending
to April Ijth, 1957, the time-limit fixed for the filing of the
Counter-Memorial or of the Preliminary Objection of the Govern-
ment of the Republic of India; Whereas on April 15th, 1957, that is, within the time-limit
fixed by said Order, the Government of the Republic of India
filed a document setting out certain Preliminary Objections to
the jurisdiction of the Court ;
Whereas, accordingly, by virtue of the provisions of Article62,
paragraph 3, of the Rules of Court, the proceedings on the merits
are suspended and a time-limit should be fixed for the presentation
by the other Party of a written statement of its Observations
and Submissions on the said Preliminary Objections;

The President of the International Court of Justice
Fixes June 15th, 1957, as the time-limit within which the
Govemment of the Republic of Portugal may present a written
statement of its Observations and Submissions in regard to the
Objections raised by the Government of the Republic of India;

Reserves the rest of the procedure for further decision.
Done in English and in French, the English text being author-
itative, at the Peace Palace, The Hague, this sixteenth day of
April, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven, in three copies,
one of which will be placed in the archives of the Court and the
others transmitted to the Govemment of the Republic of Portugal
and to the Government of the Republic of India, respectively.

Le Président de la Cour internationale de Justice,
vu l'articl48 du Statut de la Cour,

vu l'articl62 du Règlement,

Vu la requêtedéposéeau Greffe le 22 décenibrc1955 par laquelle
le Gouvernement de la République du Portugal a introduit une
instance contre le Gouvernement de la République de l'Inde au
sujet du droit de passage sur territoire indien;

Vu l'ordonnailce du13mars 1956 fixant les délaispour le depôt
du mémoire et du contre-mémoire en cette affaire et réservant la
suite de la procédure;

Vu le mémoire déposé parle Gouvernemeilt de la Képublique du
Portugal dans le délaiixé;
Vu l'ordonnance du 27novembre 1956 prorogeant au15 avril1957
la date d'expiration du délaifixépour le dépôt du contre-mémoire
ou de l'exception préliminaire du Gouvernement de la République
de l'Inde;

l'Inde a déposé un document énonçant certaines exceptions prélimi-
naires à la compétencede la Cour;

Considérant qu'en conséquence, en vertu des dispositions de
l'article62, pàragraphe 3, du Règlement de la Cour, la procédure
sur le fond est suspendue et qu'il échetde fixer un délaidans lequel
la Partie adverse pourra présenter un exposéécrit contenant ses
observations et conclusions au sujet desdites exceptior-is prklimi-
naires;

Fixe au 15 juin 1957 la date d'expiration du délaidans lequel le
Gouvernement de la République du Portugal pourra déposer un
exposéécritcontenant ses observations et conclusions sur les excep-
tions soulevéespar le Gouvernement de la Républiquede l'Inde ;

Réservela suite de la procédure.
Fait en anglais et en français, le texte anglais faisant foi, au
Palais de la Paix,à La Haye, le seizeavril mil neuf cent cinquante-
sept, en trois exemplaires, dont l'un restera déposéaux archives de
la Cour etdont lesautres seront transmis respectivement ail Gouver-
nement de la République du Portugal et au Gouverncmcilt de la
République de l'Inde.
