-rogress and conclusion of public hearings
The following information is cornmunicated to the Press by the
Registry of the International Court of Justice:
The hearings held by the Court on the issues of jurisdiction and
admissibility in the case concerning Certain Phosphate Lands in Nauru
(Nauru v. Australia), which began on 11 November 1991, were concluded
today, 22 November 1991.
During the first round of oral arguments, held between 11 and
19 November 1991, statements were made:
- on behalf of Australia, by Dr. Gavan Griffith, Agent of
Australia; Mr. Henry Burmester, Co-Agent and Counsel; Professor
Eduardo Jiménez de Aréchaga, Professor Derek W. Bowett and
Professor Alain Pellet, Counsel;
- on behalf of Nauru, by Mr. V.S. Mani and Mr. Leo D. Keke,
Co-Agents, Counsel and Advocates; His Excellency Hammer DeRoburt,
