-naugural Public Sitting of the Chamber
The following information is made available to the Press by the
Kegistry of the International Court of Justice:
On Monday 9 November 1987 the inaugural public sitting of the
Charnber of the Court in the case concerning the Land, Island and Maritime
Frontier Dispute (El ~alvador/~onduras) was held.
Speeches were macle by President Nagendra Singh and by the President
of the Chamber, Judge José Sette-Camara as well as the Ambassador of
El Salvador to the Netherlands, Mr. R. Zaldivar BrizueLa and the Agent of
Honduras, Mr. C. R. Reina.
Mr. Nicolas Valticos and Mr. Michel Virally, chosen as judges ad hoc
by El Salvador and Honduras respective1 y, have made the solemn
declaratinn required by the Statute and Kules of Court.
1 t will be recalled that by an Order of 27 May 1987 the Court fixed
1 June 1988 as the time-limit for the filing of the Memorial by each of
the Parties, and that by an Order of 29 May 1987 the Chamber further
fixed 1 February 1989 as the time-limit for the filing of a
Counter-Memorial by each of the Parties and 1 August 1989 as the
tirne-limit for the f iling of the Replies.
