Visit to the International Court of Justice by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, H.E. Mr. Edi Rama
THE HAGUE, 4 July 2022. H.E. Mr. Edi Rama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, accompanied by H.E. Ms Adia Sakiqi, Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the Netherlands, today paid a visit to the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, at its seat at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
Mr. Rama and his delegation met with the Vice-President of the Court, H.E. Judge Kirill Gevorgian, and the Deputy-Registrar, Mr. Jean-Pelé Fomété.
During the meeting, Vice-President Gevorgian and Prime Minister Rama exchanged views on the importance of settling disputes through peaceful means.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Rama signed the Visitors’ Book and exchanged gifts with the Vice-President of the Court. He was also given a brief tour of the Peace Palace, including in particular the Great Hall of Justice where the Court holds its public sittings.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. It was established by the United Nations Charter in June 1945 and began its activities in April 1946. The Court is composed of 15 judges elected for a nine-year term by the General Assembly and the Security Council of the United Nations. The seat of the Court is at the Peace Palace in The Hague (Netherlands). The Court has a twofold role: first, to settle, in accordance with international law, through judgments which have binding force and are without appeal for the parties concerned, legal disputes submitted to it by States; and, second, to give advisory opinions on legal questions referred to it by duly authorized United Nations organs and agencies of the system.
