SUBJECT: WORLD COURT CASE ON THE LEGALIN OF THE USE OF
NUCLEAR WEAPONS

On behalf of the Government of Papua New Guinea, I wish to register and reiterate
Our position with regard to the illegality of the use of nuclear weapinsany

international conflict.

Tne Government of Papua New Guinea has on numerous occasions stated its
position thatir opposes the development. storage, transportationand use of

nuclear weapons on its territory asll as in other parts of the worlBased on
this opposkion, the Governent of Papua New Guinea sujrnits to the International
COURof Justice that the court snould in the interes: of mainraining international
peace and security firrnly reach a favourable decision.ively rejecting the use

of nuclear weapons in any conflict situation.

The Government of Papua New Guinea requests that the court defer decision on
this maner for at least another two monthsin order foritand other interested

Governments to rnake subrnissions on this case before the court's deliberations and
decision.
