ADMISSIBILITY OF HEARINGS BY THE

COMMITTEE ON SOUTH WEST AFRICA

(REQUEST FOR ADVISORY OPINION)

ORDER

The President of the International Court of Justice,
having regard to Article 66, paragraph 2, of the Statute of

the Court;
Whereas, on December 3rd, 1955, the General Assembly of the
United Nations adopted a resolution requesting the International
Court of Justice to give an advisory opinion on the following
question :

"1s it consistent with the advisory opinion of the Inter-
national Court of Justice ofII July 1950 for the Committee
on South West Africa, established by General Assembly
resolution 749 A (VIII) of 28 November 1953, to grant oral
hearings to petitioners on matters relating to the Territory
of South West Africa ?"

Whereas certified true copies of the English and French texts of
the aforesaid resolution of the General Assembly were transmitted
to the Court by a letter of the Secretary-General of the United
Nations dated December ~gth, 1955, and filed in the Registry on

December zznd, 19 jj ;
Fixes February 15th, 1956,asthe time-limit within which written

ORDONNANCE

Le Président dela Cour internationale de Justice,

vu l'article6,paragraphe 2, du Statut;

Considérant que le 3 décembre 1955 l'Assembléegénéraledes
Nations Unies a adopté une résolution demandant à la Cour inter-
nationale de Justice de donner un avis consultatif sur la question
suivante :

((Le Comité du Sud-Ouest africain, créépar la résolution
749 A (VIII) de l'Assembléegénérale, endate du 28 novembre
1953, se conformerait-il à l'avis consultatif rendu par la
Cour internationale de Justice, leII juille1950, en accor-
dant des audiences à des pétitionnaires sur des questions rela-
tives au Territoire du Sud-Ouest africai» ?

Considérant que la copie certifiée conforme des textes anglais
et français de la susdite résolution de l'Assembléegénéralea été
transmise à la Cour par une lettre du Secrétairegénles Nations
Unies du 19 décembre 1955, enregistrée au Greffe 22 décembre
1955 ;
Fixe au 15 février1956la date d'expiration du délaidans lequel

des exposés écritspeuvent êtreprésentéspar tout État admis à SOUTH WEST AFRICA COMMITTEE (ORDER OF 22 XII 55)

before the Court or any international organization considered by
the President as likely to be able to furnish information on the
questionreferred to the Court;

Reserves the rest of the procedure for forther decision.

tive, at the Peace Palace, The Hague, this twenty-second day of

December, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-five.
