Hearings onpreliminacy objectiotoopen on 29 April 1996

The following information is communicated to the Press by the Registry of the International
Courtof Justice:

Public sittings to hear the oral arguments of the Parties in theApplicationming
of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Bosnia and
Herzegovinav. Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegrowill open at 10.00 a.m. on Monday
29 April 1996,n the Great Hall of Justice of the Peace Palace at The Hague.

As Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) filed certain preliminary objections related, first,
the admissibility of the Application and, secondly, ta the jurisdiction of the Court to deal with the
case, the oral proceedingsl be confined ta these issues.

NOTE FOR THE PRESS

1.The public sitting will be held in the Great Hall of Justice of the Peace Palace. Members
of the Press will be entitled to attend on presentation of an admission card, which may be obtained
upon application. Thebles reserved for them are situated on the far left of the public entrance
of the courtroom.

2. Photogrnphs may be tak.en before the opening, during the first five rninutes of the sitting;
and also for a few minutes towards the end. Filmîng for cinema or television purposes
subject to special authorization.

3. ln theess Room, located on the ground floor of the Peace Palace (Room 5), the Court's
proceedings will be relayed through a loudspeaker.

4. Membersof the Press who wish to make phone calls may use the public telephones in the
Post Office in the basement of the Palace.
