The following informationis communicated to the Pressby the
Registry of the International Courtof Justice:

Following thefiling by the United States of America of certain
preliminary objections tothe Court's jurisdictionon 16December 1993,
within the extended time-limit fixed for the Counter-Mernori,he
proceedings on the merits in the above case were suspendedand a
time-limit had to be fixed for the presentation by the other Party of a
written statementof its observations and submissions on the preliminary
objections (Rulesof Court, Art. 79,para. 3).

By an Order of18 January1994 the President of the Court, having

taken into account the views of the Parties, has fixe1July 1994 as the
time-limit within which Iran maypresent such written statementon the
preliminary objectionsraised by theUnited States.

The subsequent procedure is reserved for further decision.
