Hear:lng to open on Monday 13 February 1989

The following information is communicated to the Press by the
Registry of the Inten1ational Court of Justice:

Public sittings to hear the oral arguments of the Parties in the
case concerning Elettronica Sicula S.p.A. (ELSI) will open at 10.00 a.m.
on Monday 13 February 1989 in the Great Hall of Justice of the
Peace Palace at The Hague.

As previously announced, the case is being dealt with by a Chamber
constituted by the Court in an Order of 2 March 1987.

On 20 December 1988, the Court elected its President,
Judge J.M. Ruda, to flll the vacancy in the Chamber, resulting from the
death of Judge Nagendra Singh on 11 December 1988.

The present composition of the Chamber is as follows:
President J.M. Ruda (Argentina); Judges S. Oda (Japan), R. Ago (Italy),
S.M. Schwebel (United States of America) and Sir Robert Jennings
(United Kingdom).

Gl3d4 NOTEFORTHEPRESS

1. The public sittings will be held in the Great Hall of Justice of
the Peace Palace. Members of the Press will be entitled to attend after
presentation of a press identification card or an admission card, which
may be obtained upon application. The tables reserved for them are
situated on the far left of the public entrance to the courtroom.

2. Photographs may be taken before the opening and during the first
few minutes of a sitting; also a few minutes towards the end. Filming ...,,
for cinema or television purposes is however subject to special
authorization.

3. In the Press Room, located on the ground floor of the
Peace Palace (Room 5), the Court's proceedings will be relayed through a
loudspeaker.

4. Members of the Press may use only the public telephones in the
Post Office in the basement of the Palace.

5. Mr. A.Th. Witteveen, Secretary of the Court (telephone
extension 233) or, in his absence, Mrs. N.C. El-Erian (telephone
extension 234) will be available to deal with any requests for
information by members of the Press.
