(Nicaragua v. Costa ~ica)

The following in:formation is made available to the press by the
Registry of the Interilational Court of Justice:

The President of the Court has today, 19 August 1987, made an Order

recording the discont:Lnuance of the proceedings instituted before the
Court on 28 July 1986 by the Republic of Nicaragua against the Republic
of Costa Rica.

By a communication of 12 August 1987 the Agent of Nicaragua gave
notice of such discontinuance and requested the Court "to take the

necessary steps to im]?lement this request".

The Government of Costa Rica, to whom the communication was
transmitted by the Registrar, has stated, within the time-limit fixed by
the President of the Court in accordance with Article 89, paragraphs 2
and 3 of the Rules of Court, that it does not object to the

discontinuance.

In these circumstances, the President of the Court has now made the
appropriate Order under that Article recording the discontinuance and
ordering that the case concerning Border and Transborder Armed Actions
(Nicaragua v. Costa ~ica) be removed from the list.
