The.following information is communicatedto the Press by the
Registryof the International Couro tf Justice:

The Court willhold a publicsittingat10.30 a.m. on Tuesday
20 July 1982 in the Peace Palace,forthe purposeof deliveringits
AdvisoryOpinion in t'hecase concerningthe Application for Review of
JudnementNo. 273 of the UnitedNationsAdministrative Tribunal.

The Court received this request foradvisory opinionon an
administrative issue £rom an organ of the United Nations GeneralAssembly,
which is authorizedto that end by virtue of Article96 of the United
NationsCharter. The organin questionis the Committeeon Applications
for Reviewof Administrative Tribuna Judgements.

In accordance withthe procedurelaid down by Article 11 of the
Statuteof the United Nations Administrative Tribunalt ,he tribunalfor
the settlementof disputesbetweenthe United Nations Secretary-General
and staff members of the Organization concernint gheir conditionsof
employment, the Committeemay be asked to requestan advisory opinion £rom
the Court in connectionwith the judgementof the tribunalif a member
State, the United NationsSecretary-General, or the staff memberin
respectof whom the judgement was rendered, disputes the judgement. If the
Committee considers that there is a substantial basis foa r request,it

brings the matter before the Court. In the presentcase it was the
Governmentof the United Stateswhich made an applicationto the Committee
for Review of JudgementNo. 273, given by the Administrative Tribunalon
15 May 1981.

The case in question relates to the payment toa former United
Nations staff member on his retirementof what is known as the
repatriationgrant. The Secretary-General of the UnitedNationshaving
refused it on the basis of a resolutionof the General Assembly, the
judgementneverthelessrecognizedthe rightof the staff memberto the
paymentof this grantas an acquiredright.

fonctionnairede l'ONUd'uneprimedite de rapatriement à l'occasion de
son départen retraite. I,eSecrétaire généradle l'ONUayant refusé cette
primeen invoquantune résolutionde l'Assemblée générale,le jugement
