ORDER
The President of the International Court of Justice,
Havingregard to Article48of the Statute ofthe Court and to Article 40
of the Rules of Court,
Having regard to the Order of 22 June 1973by which the Court (inter
alia)fixed21September 1973astime-limitforthe Memorial oftheGovern-
ment of Australia and 21 December 1973 as time-limit for the Counter-
Memorial ofthe FrenchGovernment onthe questions ofthejurisdiction of
the Court to entertain the dispute and of the admissibility of the Appli-
cation,
Whereas, by a letter dated 10August 1973,the Co-Agent of Australia,
for the reasonstherein set out, requested the extension of the time-limit
for thefilingof the Memorial to 21December7973;
Whereas, by a further letter hated 13 August 1973,the Co-Agent of
Australia indicated that an extension ofthe time-limit for the filingof the
Memorial to 23 November 1973would suffice;
Whereas copies of the said letters weretransmitted to the French Gov-
ernment which was invitedto communicateits viewsto the Court;
Whereas by an oral communication of 23 August 1973,confirmed by
letter the same day,fromthe Chargéd'affairesad interimof France in the339 NUCLEAR TESTS (ORDER 28VI1173)
Netlierlands, the French Government has stated that, having disclaimed
thejurisdiction of the Court in the case, it cannot express any viewon the
request of the Government of Australia;
Extends to 23 November 1973 the time-limit for the filing of the
Memorial of the Government of Australia;
Extends to 19 April 1974the time-limit for the filing of the Counter-
Memorial of the French Government;
Reserves the subsequent procedure for further decision.
Done in English and in French, the Englishtext being authoritative, at
the Peace Palace, The Hague, this twenty-eighth day of August, one
thousand nine hundred and seventy-three, in three copies, one of which
will be placed in the archives of the Court and the others transmitted to
the Government of Australia and to the French Government respectively.

mémoiredu Gouvernement australien et au 21 décembre1973 cellede
l'expiration du délaipour le dépôtdu contre-mémoiredu Gouvernement
français sur la question de la compétencede la Cour pour connaître du
différendetsur celleiela recevabilitéde la requête,
Considérantque, par lettre du 10août 1973,leCO-agentdel'Australie a,
pour les raisons par lui exposées,demandé que la date d'expiration du
délaipour ledépôt di1mémoiresoit reportéeau 21décembre1973;
Considérant que, par une nouvelle lettre en date du13 août 1973,le
CO-agentde l'Australie a indiquéqu'il suffiraitque ce délai soitreportéau
23 novembre 1973 ;
Considérant que descopies de ces communications ont ététransmises
au Gouvernement français, qui a étinvitéà faire connaître son opinion
à la Cour;
