The InternationalCourt of Justice,
having regard to Articl48 of the Statute of the Court,

having regard to Article of the Kules of Court,

Makes the followinOrder
Having regard to the Application dated May zbt1951 ,epos-
ited and filed in the Registry on that day, whereby the Government
of the United Kingdom of Great Britainand Northern Ireland,
referring to the declarations made by that Government and by the
Imperia1 Government of Iran accepting theptional Clause pro-
vided for in Article 36, paragr2,of theStatutc, instituteci pro-
ceedings before the Court against the Iranian Empire in the Anglo-
Iranian Oil Company case;

Whereas the text of this Application was un the same day trans-
mitted to the Iranian Government in accordancc with Article 40,
paragraph z, of the Statute, and the submissions thereiri made
were, also011the same clay, communicated by telegraph to the
said Government ;
Having regard to the telegram dated Tehran, May 28th1951,
whereby the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran ackriowledged
receipt of the telegraphic notification of the Application and stated
that his Government was of the opinion that the Court had no
jurisdiction to adjudicate in this case and that on receipt of the
Application the said Government would submit a detailed re;ly
Having regard to the Order of to-day's date, by which, following
the Request of the Government of the Cnited Kingdom datedJune zznd, 1951, the Court indicates interim measures of protection
in the case, which indication in no way prejudges the jurisdiction
of the Court to consider the merits of the case,

Fixes as follows the time-limits for the presentation by the
Parties of the written proceedings :

for the Memorial of the Government of the United Kingdom :
September 3rd, 1951 ;
for the Counter-Memorial of the Imperial Government of Iran :
December 3rd, 1951.

And reserves the rest of the procedure for further decision.

Done in French and English, the French text being authoritative,
at the Peace Palace, The Hague, this fifth day of July, one thousand
nine hundred and fifty-one, in three copies, one of which will be
placed in the archives of the Court and the others transmitted to
the Government of the United Kingdom and to the Imperial
Government of Iran, respectively.

La Cour internationale de Justice,

vu l'article8 du Statut de la Cour,

vu l'article37 du Règlement de la Cour,

Rend l'ordonnance suivante :
Vu la requête, datée du 26 mai 1951 ,époséeet enregistrée au
Greffe le même jour, par laquelle le Gouvernement du Royaume-

Uni de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande du Nord, se référant aux
déclarations d'acceptation par ce Gouvernement et par le Gouver-
nement impérial de l'Iran de la disposition facultative pré\-ue à
l'article 36, paragraph2, ciu Statut, a introduit devanla Cour
contre l'Empire de l'Iran l'affaire de l'Anglo-Iranian Oil Co;pany

Considérant que, le même jour, le texte de la requête a ét6
transmis au Gouvernement de l'Iran, conformément àl'article 40,
paragraphe 2,du Statut, et que, également le mêmejour, les conclu-
sions qui y sont énoncéesont été communiquées par la voie
télégraphique audit Gouvernement ;

Vu le télégrammeen date de Téhéran,le 28 mai 1951 ,ar lequel
le ministre des Affaires étrangères deIran a accusé la réception
de la notification télégraphique de la requête,et fait savoir que son
Gouvernement était d'avis que la Cour n'était pas compétente pour
statuer sur cette affaire, et qu'après réception de la requête, ledit
Gouvernement donnerait sa réponse détaillée;
Vu l'ordonnance en date de ce jour par laquelle, à la suite de la
demande du Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni en date du 22 juin INTERNATIONAL COURT OF JUSTICE

pour le Mémoiredu Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni : au 3 sep-
tembre 1951 ;
pour le Contre-Mémoiredu Gouvernementimpérial de l'Iran : au

3 décembre 1951.
Réserve la suite de la procédure.

Fait en français et en anglais, le texte français faisant foi, au
Palais de la Paix, à La Haye, le cinq juillet mil neuf cent cinquante
et un, en trois exemplaires, dont l'un restera déposéaux archives
de la Cour et dont les autres seront transmis respectivement au
Gouvernement du Royaume-Uni et au Gouvernement impérial

de l'Iran.
