Hearing in progress

The following informat ion is made available to the press by the Kegistry
of the Internat ional Court of Jus t ice:

Between 6 and 14 December 1984 the Court heard arguments presented on
hehalf of the Government of the Lihyan Arab Jamahiriya in the case concerning
the Continental - SheLf (Libyan -Arah Jamah-----/MaZta).

The following took part in this oral presentation:

Pir. A. EL-Murtadi Suleiman, Agent of the Libyan Arah Jamahiriya;
Sir Francis Vallat, Mr. H. Briggs, Mr. G. Jacnicke, MY. J.P. Queneudec,
Mr. C.A. Colliard,Mr. La Lucchini, Mr. K. Highct and Mr. D. Bowctt,
Counsel and Advocates.

The Government of Malta had presented its arguments between
26 November and 3 Decatiber 1984. The following had taken part in the oral
presentation of filalta's case: His Excellency Mr. E. Mizzi, Agent of Pfalta;
Mr. E. Lauterpacht, Mr. P. Weil and Mr. 1. Brownlie, Counsel .

With the presentation of the Libyan oral arguments, the first part
of the hearing is closed. The oral proceedings will he concluded at n
fi~rther series of sittings heginning on Monday 4 Febrriary 1985.
